  • Cheonggyecheon Stream

Runs through the heart of Seoul, South Korea. The stream stretches for 10.9 kilometers and flows from the Bukhansan mountain range in the north to the Han River in the south. The stream has a long and storied history, dating back to the Joseon Dynasty when it was used for various purposes including transportation, irrigation, and even as a source of drinking water. However, as the city grew and developed, the stream became heavily polluted and was eventually covered over by highways and other infrastructure. In 2003, the city of Seoul began a major restoration project to uncover and revitalize the stream. The project involved removing the highways that had covered the stream and restoring its banks and surrounding areas. Today, the stream is a popular public space and cultural attraction, with pedestrian walkways, public art installations, and even a traditional Korean lantern festival held along its banks.
