Description

Sumo in Tokyo attracts many international visitors, seeking the thrill of watching the wrestlers do battle in their sacred ring. However, tournaments are held just six times a year and in different cities. You might watch their morning practice instead, but this is not year-round either, and may not include any bouts.

So, why not visit Yokozuna Tonkatsu Dosukoi Tanaka, the show restaurant operated by a retired sumo wrestler!?

Here, you’ll enjoy an unforgettable interactive show — entirely in English — with former professionals, while eating the famous chanko nabe stew, the source of their power!

Book your seats for this very special performance on the east side of Tokyo for the rare chance to try your luck and strength against a real sumo wrestler. Learn about their traditional techniques, see exhibition matches, and eat a delicious sumo lunch!

About seating, please note:

All the seats are assigned according to your payment date which means that your seat is already fixed by the time you arrive. It is not first come, first served. We are grateful to receive so many bookings from around the world and would like to have as many guests as possible to share this experience. To make this happen there might be a possibility of having your table shared with other guests. Also if you are a big group, we might not be able to fit you together in one table.

How It Works (FAQ)

What food and drink is served at the sumo restaurant?: The set lunch menu comprises tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet), chanko nabe (sumo hotpot), potato salad, shredded cabbage, rice, and ice cream. You can order drinks including draught beer, Japanese sake, and Japanese soda. See the drinks menu here.
Can I order extra food at the sumo restaurant?: Additional orders are not possible on the day. If you have special dietary needs, please inform us when booking. Vegan, halal, gluten free, and other requests can be met if requested in advance.
How many can sit at one table?: One table seats up to six people. In total, the sumo restaurant seats up to 60.
Can I choose my seat at the sumo restaurant?: Seats are assigned in the order we receive reservations, starting with tables nearest the action. Seating requests are not possible, so book early to get the closest view of the sumo ring.
Are all the staff at the sumo restaurant wrestlers?: Several staff at Yokozuna Tonkatsu Dosukoi Tanaka are former professional sumo wrestlers, including the performers, and the kitchen staff making chanko nabe sumo stew.
Where can I eat lunch with sumo wrestlers in Tokyo?: At Yokozuna Tonkatsu Dosukoi Tanaka you can have a lunch that includes sumo wrestlers stew, while watching a performance by sumo wrestlers in the central ring.
Can I try sumo wrestling at the Tokyo sumo restaurant?: At Yokozuna Tonkatsu Dosukoi Tanaka you will get a lesson on the history, techniques, and rules of sumo, before having the chance to challenge a wrestler to a friendly match! Anyone who wishes is encourages to line up for their turn in the ring.
