Departing from Navy Pier, this guided boat tour offers an unforgettable way to see the Windy City's architectural masterpieces from the Chicago River.

Local Legends & Stories

Chicago's riverfront is home to some of the world's most celebrated architecture, including the birthplace of the modern skyscraper. The city's unique reversal of the Chicago River in 1900 remains one of engineering's greatest feats, and the riverwalk below offers a pedestrian perspective just as stunning as the river cruise itself.

Perfect Timing

When to visit for the best experience

Spring through fall (April to November) offers the longer 75-minute cruise with warmer weather for enjoying the open deck. Sunset departures in late summer provide stunning golden-hour views of the skyline, while winter cruises offer a magical snow-dusted cityscape experience.

Photography Guide

Capture the perfect shots

  • Position yourself on the open deck for unobstructed skyline shots, especially near the front of the boat

  • Use a polarizing filter to reduce glare from the river and building windows

  • The iconic bridge lifts make for dramatic photo opportunities — ask your guide when they occur

Cultural Etiquette

Respect local customs and traditions

Chicagoans are proud of their architectural heritage and love sharing stories about their city's buildings. The riverwalk is a beloved local gathering space, so respect the area when you disembark. Tipping your guide is appreciated but not required, as the experience is already well-covered by the ticket price.

Special Events & Experiences

Enhanced experiences and seasonal highlights

  • Fireworks displays over the river during Fourth of July celebrations

  • Holiday lights cruise specials during the winter season

  • Special architecture-focused themed cruises during Chicago Architecture Foundation events
