Perfect Timing

When to visit for the best experience

Spring (April to May) and Fall (September to October) offer the most comfortable temperatures for desert exploration. Summer can be intensely hot, while winter brings stunning snow-dusted red rocks but colder, potentially icy off-road conditions.

Photography Guide

Capture the perfect shots

  • Bring a wide-angle lens to capture the immense scale of the canyons and the towering height of the arches.

  • Use a polarizing filter to make the red rocks pop against the deep blue Utah sky and reduce glare.

  • Keep your camera protected from fine desert dust in a sealed bag when driving with windows down.

Cultural Etiquette

Respect local customs and traditions

Respect the delicate desert environment by staying on designated trails and never touching or climbing on fragile sandstone arches. Ancient petroglyphs are sacred cultural heritage; observe them from a distance and never touch the rock art.

Special Events & Experiences

Enhanced experiences and seasonal highlights

  • The Easter Jeep Safari in spring brings off-road enthusiasts from around the world to tackle the region's famous trails.

  • The Moab Music Festival in late summer features incredible acoustic performances set in natural red rock grottos.

  • Stargazing events are frequently held during the new moon, taking advantage of the area's Dark Sky Park status.

Important Guidelines & Safety

Essential safety information and guidelines

  • Hydration is critical in the high desert; drink water constantly, even if you do not feel thirsty.

  • Listen carefully to your guide's instructions during off-road segments and keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle.

  • Be cautious near canyon edges, as sandstone can be crumbly and unstable.

Canyonlands National Park is located in southeastern Utah, United States, at the confluence of the Green and Colorado Rivers. The park is a sandstone tower and canyon formed by years of river erosion, wind, frost, rain and snow. It has become one of the world's famous erosion areas, and is known for its sinister peaks and rugged rocks. It was officially built as a park in 1964, covering an area of 1,366 square kilometers. The park is divided into three parts, the north, the entrance near the town of Moab is called Islandinthesky, the south is called Needles, and the west is called Maze. Canyonlands National Park covers a vast area, and the landscape is vast and boundless. In the park, there are terraces, canyons and other landscapes named according to their shapes, colors and various characteristics, such as the Golden Ladder, Elephant Gorge, Tianxian Island, Doll Stone, Tapestry Stone, Horseshoe Valley, as well as spectacular terraces, stone formations, etc. There are no roads here, and the three major scenic spots in the park are independent. If you want to visit all of them, you need to drive on different roads. This is one of the areas in the United States that is recognized as difficult for humans to enter.
