Photography Guide
Capture the perfect shots
-
Arrive at Tunnel View during sunrise for the best light on El Capitan and Half Dome — the morning glow is truly magical
-
Use a polarizing filter to reduce glare and enhance the colors of the waterfalls and forest
-
Long exposure shots of Yosemite Falls create that dreamy, silky water effect that defines classic Yosemite photography
Cultural Etiquette
Respect local customs and traditions
Yosemite is a place of deep reverence for nature — practice Leave No Trace principles to help preserve its beauty for future generations. The park holds significant cultural importance to several Native American tribes, so approach the landscape with respect and curiosity about its indigenous heritage.
Special Events & Experiences

-
The annual Yosemite Valley Music Festival brings live performances set against the stunning backdrop of towering cliffs
-

Important Guidelines & Safety
Essential safety information and guidelines

Stay on marked trails and never approach the edges of cliffs — granite ledges can be unstable and drop-offs are sheer

Keep a safe distance from wildlife, especially deer and ground squirrels; feeding animals is illegal and dangerous
-
Carry and drink plenty of water, especially during summer months when temperatures can rise quickly at lower elevations
