About Singapore Zoo

Step into the award-winning Singapore Zoo, where open-concept enclosures and lush rainforest landscapes offer an unparalleled immersive wildlife experience. With over 2,800 animals and interactive feeding sessions, it is the perfect eco-friendly adventure for families and nature enthusiasts. Book your tickets to explore one of the world's best rainforest zoos and create unforgettable memories.

Local Legends & Stories

The Singapore Zoo holds a special place in the hearts of locals, largely due to Ah Meng, a beloved Sumatran orangutan who became a national icon and even received the Singapore Tourism Board's Special Tourism Award. Her legacy lives on through the zoo's ongoing primate conservation efforts and the fond memories of generations of Singaporeans who grew up visiting her.

Must Do Experiences

  • Catch the Splash Safari or Animal Friends shows for entertaining and educational wildlife presentations.

  • Hand-feed the gentle giraffes at the Wild Africa zone or the friendly marmosets in the Fragile Forest.

  • Hop on the complimentary guided tram ride to navigate the sprawling park and learn fascinating animal facts from the driver.

  • Walk through the immersive Fragile Forest biodome to spot free-ranging lemurs, flying foxes, and butterflies right beside you.

Hidden Gems

  • Visit the Ethopian Rift Valley exhibit early in the morning to watch the gelada baboons grooming and foraging in a highly active state.

  • Look for the hidden reptile and amphibian enclosures tucked along the shaded Reptopia trail, which most visitors rush past on their way to the main mammal exhibits.

  • Stop by the Ah Meng Restaurant for a nostalgic local breakfast of kaya toast and soft-boiled eggs, named after the zoo's beloved late orangutan icon.

What Makes it Special

  • The pioneering open-concept design uses hidden dry moats and glass barriers instead of cages, making you feel like you are walking right through the animals' natural habitats.

  • The zoo is deeply committed to conservation and sustainability, operating extensive breeding programs for endangered species like the orangutan and pygmy hippopotamus.

  • It offers a highly interactive experience where scheduled feeding sessions and keeper talks allow guests to connect intimately with the wildlife.

Perfect Timing

When to visit for the best experience

The best time to visit is right when the zoo opens at 8:30 AM to enjoy cooler temperatures and watch the animals during their most active morning feeding times. While it is a fantastic year-round destination, weekday mornings offer a much quieter experience compared to bustling weekends and local school holidays. Keep an eye on the weather forecast, as afternoon tropical showers are common, though the park provides plenty of shaded areas and pavilions.

Photography Guide

Capture the perfect shots

  • Use a polarizing filter or adjust your exposure to cut through the glare of the glass barriers used in exhibits like the Great Rift Valley.

  • The Fragile Forest biodome offers spectacular lighting in the early morning when the sun filters through the canopy, perfect for capturing free-ranging lemurs and birds.

  • Avoid using flash photography as it can startle and distress the animals, and always respect the designated photography boundaries.

Cultural Etiquette

Respect local customs and traditions

Singapore is a clean and green city, so visitors are expected to respect the environment by disposing of trash in designated bins and not plucking any plants within the zoo. While the dress code is casual, modest and comfortable clothing is recommended for walking in the tropical heat. Tipping is not expected or required in Singapore, including at the zoo's cafes and restaurants.

Special Events & Experiences

Enhanced experiences and seasonal highlights

  • Jungle Breakfast with Wildlife offers a unique morning buffet experience where you can dine near the free-ranging orangutans.

  • During the Chinese New Year and Christmas seasons, the zoo hosts special festive trails, themed animal encounters, and exclusive holiday keeper talks.

  • The annual Wildlife Reserves Singapore conservation events often feature special educational workshops and behind-the-scenes tours for passionate nature lovers.

Important Guidelines & Safety

Essential safety information and guidelines

  • Stay hydrated by carrying a reusable water bottle and utilizing the free water coolers located throughout the park to prevent heat exhaustion.

  • Always keep a safe distance from the animals and never attempt to reach over barriers or moats, even if the wildlife appears approachable.

  • Apply mosquito repellent before entering heavily forested zones like the Fragile Forest and Reptopia to avoid insect bites.
