About Small-Group: Yehliu, Jiufen & Pingxi Day Tour from Taipei Day Tours

Explore the stunning coastal formations of Yehliu Geopark, wander through the fairy-tale hillside streets of Jiufen, and launch a sky lantern bearing your wishes over Pingxi — all in one unforgettable day from Taipei.

Local Legends & Stories

Yehliu's famous Queen's Head rock formation is said to have been formed when a volcanic eruption shaped the distinctive mushroom-like stone over centuries, while Jiufen's misty hillside alleys were once a bustling gold-mining town that inspired the setting of the beloved animated film Spirited Away.

Must Do Experiences

  • Marvel at the iconic Queen's Head rock formation at Yehliu Geopark, get lost in the enchanting lantern-lit alleys of Jiufen Old Street, and write your wish on a sky lantern and release it into the sky in Pingxi

Hidden Gems

  • Visit Jiufen in the late afternoon to avoid crowds and catch the magical golden-hour glow on its nostalgic streets, explore the lesser-known Baishidong Coastal Scenic Area near Yehliu for dramatic cliff views without the crowds, and browse the local tea houses in Jiufen for a cup of oolong with a view of the mountains

What Makes it Special

  • Small-group format ensures a personalized and intimate experience throughout the day, combines three of Taiwan's most iconic cultural and natural attractions in one seamless itinerary, and includes the memorable sky lantern launching experience that creates a lasting memory

Available Facilities

Air-conditioned vehicle professional licensed tour guide entrance tickets sky lantern experience local general liabilities insurance hotel pickup and drop-off (private option)

Perfect Timing

When to visit for the best experience

Spring and autumn offer the most pleasant weather for exploring these outdoor and hillside attractions. Mornings tend to be less crowded, especially at Yehliu, while late afternoon in Jiufen provides the most photogenic and atmospheric experience.

Photography Guide

Capture the perfect shots

  • Arrive early at Yehliu Geopark to capture the Queen's Head in soft morning light without the crowds, shoot Jiufen's narrow alleys and red lanterns during golden hour for a cinematic feel, and try a long-exposure shot of the sky lanterns rising at dusk in Pingxi for a magical effect

Cultural Etiquette

Respect local customs and traditions

When launching a sky lantern, hold it gently with both hands, make a sincere wish, and release it only when the guide gives the signal — it is considered bad luck to rush the process. In Jiufen, respect the quiet residential atmosphere in the upper alleys and be mindful of elderly locals navigating the steep steps.

Special Events & Experiences

Enhanced experiences and seasonal highlights

  • Taipei Lantern Festival in the first month of the lunar calendar features spectacular lantern displays, Jiufen hosts traditional temple festivals during Chinese New Year with vibrant decorations and performances, and Yehliu Geopark offers guided geological tours during school holiday periods

Important Guidelines & Safety

Essential safety information and guidelines

  • Wear sturdy, non-slip footwear as the pathways in Jiufen and Yehliu can be uneven and slippery, keep a close watch on your belongings in crowded areas like Jiufen Old Street, and follow the guide's instructions carefully during the sky lantern launch for a safe experience

Visitor Information

Entry Fee

Entrance to Yehliu Geopark and the sky lantern experience are included in the tour price. Additional expenses such as meals, souvenirs, and optional activities can be paid separately.

Visit Duration

This is a full-day tour departing from Taipei and returning in the evening. Plan for approximately 10 to 12 hours to fully enjoy all three destinations at a comfortable pace.

Accessibility

The tour involves walking on uneven terrain and climbing stairs, particularly in Jiufen, so it may not be suitable for guests with limited mobility. Please inform the tour operator in advance if you have accessibility requirements.

Overview

TAIPEI 101 is located in a prime location in Taipei. The project was primarily planned by the Taipei Financial Center Corporation, a consortium of fourteen companies, in collaboration with a professional team. Masterfully designed by architect Li Zuyuan, the tower transcends the concept of a single volume, incorporating the auspicious number "eight" (a homophone for "prosperity") as a design unit. Each eight floors forms a structural unit, interconnected and stacked to form a cohesive whole. The resulting exterior creates a rhythmic aesthetic, ushering in a new style for international skyscrapers.

The building's shape resembles a strong bamboo that rises higher and is flexible, symbolizing the traditional architectural meaning of endless life.

The 360-degree mirrored wall design inside Taipei 101 reflects the sky, clouds and sunlight into the interior, creating a feeling of being in a cloud garden, overlooking the mountains and the city landscape.

The 89th-floor observation deck, at an elevation of 382 meters, offers not only panoramic views but also a variety of other facilities, including: ultra-high-magnification telescopes, commemorative photo photography services, a beverage bar, multimedia audio-visual guides in eleven languages, souvenir sales services, etc. You can also see the wind damper weighing 660 metric tons, a few of which are exposed for viewing.

The 89th-floor indoor observation deck, ablaze with lights at night, illuminates the glass landscape, creating a dreamlike and immersive experience. Not only does it offer panoramic views of the million-dollar nightscape, but it also features a unique photo window, making every moment a memorable one!

Equipped with an ultra-high-speed elevator, the ascent speed can reach 1010 meters per minute. It only takes 37 seconds to go from the 5th floor to the 89th floor observation deck. This high-tech smart high-speed elevator

Its multi-section appearance naturally mitigates the wind field effect caused by airflow caused by high-rise buildings on the ground, and ensures the safety and comfort of pedestrians through the separation of green planting areas in the architectural design.

Endless Skyline: Through the unique mirror principle, experience the visual sensation of the heavens and earth within reach yet infinitely extended via layered reflections between the skylight and mirrored floor, immersing visitors in a kaleidoscopic world. Friendly reminder:Female tourists wearing short skirts, please be aware of the reflection issues on the mirrored floor.

Wind damper ball: The full official name of Taipei 101's wind damper ball is Tuned Mass Damper (TMD), a custom-designed passive damping system for this building. Located at the center of floors 87–92, its primary purpose is to reduce the building's sway during strong winds and minimize discomfort for occupants. Unlike traditional hidden damping systems, this wind damper ball uniquely combines functionality with aesthetic design, allowing visitors to observe its operation from the observation deck.

Ultra-high-speed elevators: Taipei 101 Observatory is equipped with two ultra-high-speed elevators that can ascend at a speed of 1,010 meters per min. It takes only 37 sec to travel from the 5th floor to the 89th-floor observatory. These elevators also feature constant-pressure cabin equipment, dampers, and a high-temperature-resistant ceramic braking system, integrating cutting-edge technology into these intelligent high-speed elevators.

Experience a dreamy immersive journey at the 89th-floor indoor observation deck, where dazzling night lights reflect off glass installations. Marvel at the million-dollar night view and capture timeless moments at the exclusive photo windows!

Secret garden in the clouds: A stunning photo spot where romantic scenes meet high-altitude city views, creating a beautiful picture
