Nusa Penida is off the south-east coast of Bali, not Lombok. People often combine it with Lombok because the fast-boat route between the two islands passes close to it, and because both trips appeal to the same kind of traveller. Four days: the quick Gili sampler
Fly into Lombok, transfer to Bangsal and cross to Gili Air for two nights. Spend the first morning on the shared snorkel tour and the afternoon doing nothing. When to go, what it costs and what to pack
Season. The dry season runs roughly from April to October, and that is when the sea is calmest and visibility best. Several operator descriptions point to May to September as the sweet spot, with June to August the busiest. The wet season, from about November to March, brings rougher crossings, murkier water and occasional cancellations. It is not unusable, and prices drop, but I would not book a tight schedule with a fixed flight home in the same week.
Budget. Our country notes put a typical Indonesian daily budget at around Rp500,000 to Rp2,000,000 per person, covering a modest to comfortable range. Lombok sits towards the lower end of that on the mainland and a notch higher on the Gilis, where everything has to come by boat. A rough plan for a mid-range traveller looks like this.

Packing. Reef-safe sunscreen, a rash vest, a dry bag, a waterproof phone pouch, a light cover-up for village visits, motion-sickness tablets and a refillable bottle. Respect the place
Lombok is a majority Muslim island, and outside the beach strips people dress modestly. Cover shoulders and knees in villages and when visiting a mosque or a home, and ask before photographing people. Do not stand on coral, do not feed the turtles, and take your rubbish with you.
