Best way to get around Sri Lanka on a 2-week itinerary? Train or private driver?

The train along the coast between Colombo and Galle is one of the most scenic rides in Asia—definitely do that segment. For longer distances, a private driver with a car (around $60-80/day) is far more comfortable and flexible than buses. The hill country routes are winding but the views of tea plantations are spectacular.
