The Salkantay Trek is the most popular alternative and often considered more scenic—it passes glaciers, cloud forests, and ends near Machu Picchu. The 4-day Lares Trek offers hot springs and less crowded trails. Both require booking through agencies; independent trekking on these routes isn't permitted. Book at least a month ahead.
