Spent the whole evening googling do I need a special permit to hike the Tusheti region in Georgia, and how far... and ended up more confused than when I started.

Would really appreciate any advice.

Tusheti is a protected area; foreign hikers need a border permit, which your guide or tour agency can arrange. Apply at least two weeks ahead, especially during the summer trekking season (June‑September).
