Do I need to carry cash in Uzbekistan or are cards widely accepted? What about the new sum notes?

Cards work in Tashkent and Samarkand hotels and bigger restaurants, but cash is king everywhere else. ATMs are plentiful but can run out. Bring USD Euros to exchange—new sum notes work fine and you'll need them for bazaars and small towns.
