Is it safe to drink tap water in Laos?

My travel buddy and I can't agree on this, so asking here.
Any input appreciated.

No, tap water is not safe to drink anywhere in Laos. Always drink bottled or filtered water, even for brushing your teeth. Avoid ice in drinks unless you're at a reputable restaurant or hotel. Many travelers also carry water purification tablets as a backup.
