What to expect

Bode Museum combines Byzantine Art with one of the largest collections of sculptures in the world. And, as a bonus, it's one of the most stunning buildings in Berlin! Situated on the north side of Museum Island, visitors can admire the stunning handiwork of some of the finest craftsmen and artists of the age. Skip the line and get right into wonderful artworks from the past.A visit to the Bode will expose you to waves of art from around the world. The museum's collections draw from several historical eras - from the end of the Roman Empire right up until the 19th century. Art movements covered include the Christian Orient, Byzantium, Ravenna, Italian Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque eras, among others. Soak up masterpieces from a broad range of times and locations. And if that wasn’t enough, the Bode Museum also houses the (Coin Cabinet) with an incredible 500,000 items - including pieces from Ancient Greece, Rome, the Middle East, and the Orient. The Bode Museum was built at the turn of the 20th century for Crown Princess Victoria of Prussia. She wanted to display paintings and sculptures side-by-side. Art historian and curator Wilhelm von Bode fulfilled Her Highness's wishes, and changed the way art is displayed ever after. And Von Bode got this fantastic museum named in his honor.
