With professional English and Chinese-speaking instructors and hassle-free round-trip bus transfers, this one-day tour is the perfect introduction to skiing or snowboarding in Hokkaido.
Local Legends & Stories
The name Asarigawa translates to shallow river, rooted in the Ainu indigenous history of the region where the river valley provided a vital pathway through the dense Hokkaido forests. -
Locals love the nearby Asarigawa Onsen village, where you can find charming local eateries serving steaming bowls of Hokkaido miso ramen after a day on the slopes.

Available Facilities
Perfect Timing
When to visit for the best experience
The ski season typically runs from mid-December to late March, with January and February offering the best powder conditions and consistent snowfall. Mornings are ideal for lessons as the slopes are freshly groomed and less crowded, while early afternoons provide the brightest natural lighting for photography.
Photography Guide
Capture the perfect shots
-
Capture the stunning contrast of the white snow against the resort's iconic birch trees during the mid-morning golden hour.
-
Head to the top of the cable car line for sweeping panoramic shots of the Ishikari Bay and the surrounding mountain ranges.
-
Use a polarizing filter or adjust your camera's exposure compensation to prevent the bright snow from washing out your photos.
Cultural Etiquette
Respect local customs and traditions
In Japan, it is customary to bow slightly when greeting your instructors and to express gratitude with a polite arigatou gozaimasu at the end of the lesson. When visiting the nearby onsen or resort baths, ensure you wash thoroughly at the shower stations before entering the communal hot springs, and keep small towels out of the water.
Special Events & Experiences
Enhanced experiences and seasonal highlights
-
The Sapporo Snow Festival in early February brings a festive atmosphere to the region, with many visitors combining their ski trip with a tour of the city's massive ice sculptures.
-
Asarigawa Onsen occasionally hosts winter illumination events and snowshoe trekking tours through the illuminated birch forests during peak January and February weekends.
-
The Otaru Snow Light Path Festival, usually held in February, is a beautiful nearby evening event featuring thousands of candles and snow lanterns.
Important Guidelines & Safety
Essential safety information and guidelines
-
Always wear the provided helmet and snow goggles to protect against head injuries and snow blindness caused by UV reflection.
-
Stay within the marked beginner zones and follow your instructor's guidance to avoid accidentally wandering into advanced terrain or hidden tree wells.
-
Take regular breaks to hydrate and warm up, as the cold Hokkaido wind can quickly lead to fatigue or frostbite on exposed skin.
Visitor Information
Entry Fee
This tour operates on an all-inclusive package structure covering transfers, instruction, and gear, eliminating the need for separate lift tickets. Child and senior discounts may apply depending on the specific package selected at the time of booking.
Visit Duration
Allocate a full day for this tour, as the itinerary includes round-trip transfers from Sapporo and several hours of dedicated slope time. If you are short on energy, prioritize the morning group lesson and a single scenic cable car ride before heading back to the lodge to warm up.
Accessibility
While the main lodge and ground-floor facilities are wheelchair accessible, the snowy terrain and ski slopes themselves are not suitable for standard wheelchairs. Visitors with mobility concerns should contact the resort in advance to inquire about specialized adaptive snow sports equipment or accessible viewing areas.
