About Komuroyama Park
Escape to the serene heights of Komuroyama Park, a stunning volcanic crater oasis in Shizuoka's Ito City. This all-inclusive package covers your round-trip bus and cable car rides, letting you effortlessly soak in panoramic views of the Izu Peninsula and Mount Fuji. It is the perfect peaceful retreat for nature lovers and photographers seeking a blend of adventure and scenic beauty.
Local Legends & Stories
Komuroyama is an ancient volcano that shaped the Izu Peninsula's rugged coastline, and local lore often speaks of the mountain as a sleeping guardian watching over the fishermen of Ito City. The crater's serene bowl is sometimes affectionately referred to as a natural sanctuary where the mountain's fiery past has transformed into a peaceful haven.
Must Do Experiences
-
Ride the scenic cable car to the summit and step into the lush, crater-shaped volcanic landscape.
-
Stroll along the rim of the crater for breathtaking panoramic views of the Izu Peninsula, Sagami Bay, and Mount Fuji on clear days.
-
Relax on the expansive open grassy lawns, perfect for a peaceful picnic or simply unwinding amidst nature.
-
Redeem your included 50-yen voucher for a refreshing coffee at the summit Cafe 321 or a sweet ice cream treat at the base.
Hidden Gems
-
The park's unique bowl-shaped crater creates a microclimate that nurtures rare alpine plants and vibrant seasonal blooms not commonly found at this altitude.
-
Early morning visitors can often catch the mystical sea of clouds rolling over the Izu Peninsula from the summit observation deck.
-
The gentle walking trails inside the crater rim offer a surprisingly quiet, wind-sheltered sanctuary away from the main tourist crowds.
What Makes it Special
-
The seamless inclusion of round-trip bus and cable car tickets makes accessing this elevated natural paradise completely hassle-free.
-
The striking contrast between the volcanic crater terrain and the lush, manicured grassy picnic areas offers a unique dual landscape experience.
-
Unobstructed, sweeping 360-degree views that encompass the ocean, mountains, and iconic Mount Fuji from a single vantage point.
Available Facilities
Perfect Timing
When to visit for the best experience
The best time to visit is early morning during spring or autumn when the skies are clearest, offering the highest chance to see Mount Fuji and avoiding the midday tour groups. Cherry blossoms in April and vibrant autumn foliage in November provide stunning seasonal backdrops, though these periods will naturally draw larger crowds.
Photography Guide
Capture the perfect shots
-
Head to the summit observation deck just after sunrise or during the golden hour before sunset for dramatic lighting over the Sagami Bay and Izu coastline.
-
Use a wide-angle lens to capture the full scale of the bowl-shaped crater and the expansive grassy lawns against the mountain backdrop.
-
Frame your shots of Mount Fuji from the northern edge of the crater rim, using the lush green foliage in the foreground for added depth.
Cultural Etiquette
Respect local customs and traditions
Japanese parks are cherished for their tranquility, so keep your voice down and avoid playing loud music while enjoying the picnic areas. Always dispose of your trash in the designated bins or take it back with you, as public rubbish bins are scarce and keeping the environment pristine is a strong local custom.
Special Events & Experiences
Enhanced experiences and seasonal highlights
-
The Komuroyama Azalea Festival in spring transforms the mountain slopes into a vibrant sea of pink and red blooms.
-
Autumn foliage illuminations and special sunset viewing events are occasionally held in November when the crater's trees turn brilliant shades of orange and gold.
-
New Year's sunrise viewing is a popular local tradition, with early cable car operations sometimes arranged for sunrise enthusiasts.
Important Guidelines & Safety
Essential safety information and guidelines
-
Stay on the marked trails and observation decks, as the edges of the volcanic crater can have steep drop-offs and loose soil.
-
Keep a close eye on young children, especially near the crater rim and while boarding or exiting the moving cable car.
-
Apply sunscreen and wear a hat during the summer months, as the open grassy areas at the summit offer very little natural shade.
Visitor Information
Entry Fee
This package provides excellent value by bundling the round-trip bus from Ito Station, the round-trip cable car ride, and a discount coupon into one convenient adult ticket. Children and seniors may be eligible for discounted rates at the ticket counter, though this specific bundle is tailored for adult travelers.
Visit Duration
Plan to spend about two to three hours at Komuroyama Park to comfortably ride the cable car, walk the crater rim, and enjoy a break at the cafe. If you are short on time, prioritize the summit observation deck and the immediate grassy picnic area for the best views and photo opportunities.
Accessibility
The cable car and main observation areas are generally accessible, but the natural trails around the crater rim feature uneven terrain and steps that may be challenging for wheelchair users or those with mobility issues. Accessible restrooms are available at the main rest house and summit facilities.
