Local Legends & Stories
Mount Katsuragi, where the park is located, has long been revered by locals for its spiritual energy and historical ties to ancient mountain ascetics who trained in these lush forests. Available Facilities
Perfect Timing
When to visit for the best experience
The best time to visit is during the early morning or late afternoon in autumn or winter, when the air is crisp and the chances of seeing a clear, unobstructed Mount Fuji are highest. Spring offers beautiful cherry blossoms and fresh greenery, while summer provides lush landscapes but comes with a higher chance of foggy conditions that might obscure the distant views.
Photography Guide
Capture the perfect shots
-
Head to the main observation deck during the golden hour just before sunset to capture the warm, glowing light hitting Mount Fuji and Suruga Bay.
-
Use a polarizing filter on your camera or smartphone to reduce glare and enhance the deep blue skies and vibrant green foliage.
-
Frame your shots using the summit's Bell of Happiness or the heart-shaped monuments in the foreground for unique, memorable compositions.
Cultural Etiquette
Respect local customs and traditions
Japanese mountain trails and observation areas are kept exceptionally clean, so please carry a small bag to take your trash back with you, as public bins are scarce. When using the summit footbath, be sure to wash your feet at the provided showers before entering and use the complimentary towels respectfully. Keep noise levels down on the ropeway and trails to maintain the peaceful atmosphere for all visitors.
Special Events & Experiences
Enhanced experiences and seasonal highlights
-
Spring Cherry Blossom Illumination: The base and lower mountain areas are often lit up during the sakura season, creating a magical evening atmosphere.
-
Autumn Foliage Viewing: From late November to early December, the ropeway offers spectacular aerial views of the vibrant red and yellow autumn leaves covering the mountain.
-
New Year Sunrise Rides: Special early morning operations are sometimes held on New Year's Day to allow visitors to watch the first sunrise of the year from the summit.
Important Guidelines & Safety
Essential safety information and guidelines
-
Stay on the designated walking paths and observation decks, as the mountain terrain can be steep and slippery, especially after rain.
-
Hold onto the handrails inside the ropeway cabin and keep children seated during the ascent and descent for a safe ride.
-
Bring sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of water during the summer months, as the summit viewing areas are exposed to direct sunlight.
Visitor Information
Entry Fee
The standard ticket covers a round-trip ride on the Izunokuni Panorama Park Ropeway, with discounted rates available for children and infants riding for free or at a reduced fare. Combo tickets that include local bus transport or nearby attraction entries are occasionally available at the base station for added convenience.
Visit Duration
Plan to spend about two to three hours at Izunokuni Panorama Park to fully enjoy the ropeway ride, explore the main viewing decks, and take a short walk on the summit trails. If you are short on time, prioritize the main observatory and the footbath near the summit station for the best views and a quick, relaxing experience.
Accessibility
The ropeway cabins and summit station are wheelchair accessible, allowing visitors with mobility needs to easily reach the main observation decks and cafe. However, some of the natural forest trails and secondary viewing points may have uneven terrain or steps that are difficult to navigate with a wheelchair or stroller.
