Perfect Timing

When to visit for the best experience

The best time to visit is on a weekday morning during spring or autumn to enjoy mild weather, clear views of Mount Fuji, and smaller crowds at the popular tuna restaurants. Arriving in Misaki by late morning ensures you get the freshest lunch options before the most popular cuts of tuna sell out for the day.

Photography Guide

Capture the perfect shots

  • Capture the iconic red and white Jogashima Lighthouse against the deep blue ocean backdrop during the golden hour just before sunset.

  • Head to the Misakiguchi Station area in the early morning to photograph the bustling port activities and massive tuna deliveries without the midday tourist crowds.

  • When taking photos inside the local fish markets or restaurants, always ask for permission first, as some vendors prefer not to have their prep areas photographed.

Cultural Etiquette

Respect local customs and traditions

When dining at local tuna restaurants, it is customary to say itadakimasu before eating and gochisosama deshita after finishing your meal to show appreciation to the chefs. Tipping is not practiced in Japan, so simply pay the exact amount shown on the bill and offer a polite bow or thank you to the staff.

Special Events & Experiences

Enhanced experiences and seasonal highlights

  • The Misaki Port Tuna Festival usually held in spring features exciting tuna carving shows, local street food stalls, and massive discounts on premium sashimi.

  • During the winter months, the Miura Peninsula hosts spectacular illumination events and offers stunning, crystal-clear views of Mount Fuji from the coastal parks.

  • In late summer, the nearby Miura Coast comes alive with vibrant fireworks festivals that can be easily accessed using your Keikyu bus and train pass.

Important Guidelines & Safety

Essential safety information and guidelines

  • Exercise caution when walking along the coastal cliffs and rocky shores of Jogashima Island, as the rocks can be extremely slippery when wet.

  • Stay hydrated and apply sunscreen during the summer months, as the seaside breeze can mask the intensity of the direct sun exposure.

  • Be mindful of the narrow roads in the fishing port area and watch out for delivery trucks and forklifts transporting fresh seafood.

Visit Duration
