About ZEALANDIA by Day Guided Experience
Step into the heart of Wellington's wildlife at Zealandia, New Zealand's first fully fenced ecosanctuary. This guided 2-hour tour offers an intimate encounter with rare native species, including the iconic kiwi, against a backdrop of stunning native bush and rolling hills.
Local Legends & Stories
Zealandia sits on the traditional lands of Te Āti Awa and Ngāti Toa Rangatira, who have deep spiritual connections to this area. The name 'Zealandia' honours both the Māori concept of the land as a living entity and New Zealand's Dutch roots.
Must Do Experiences
-
Join the guided 2-hour walking tour through the sanctuary's boardwalks and trails
-
Spot the elusive nocturnal kiwi during the day-time presentation
-
Walk the iconic Tongarewa Track for panoramic views of Wellington Harbour
-
Listen to the calls of tīeke (saddleback) echoing through the forest canopy
Hidden Gems

-
Visit the Mihi Whakatau (Welcome) meeting house to learn about Māori connection to the land
-
The predator-free zone means you can hear the forest come alive with bird song — don't miss the saddleback's distinctive whistling call
