Kaiyang Nanjiang Grand Canyon: A Spectacular Karst Gem in Guizhou

Nestled in Longguang Village, Nanjiang Township, Kaiyang County, Guiyang City, Guizhou Province (simply input "Kaiyang Nanjiang Grand Canyon" into your navigation app), this 4A-level scenic area is a breathtaking showcase of karst landscape magic. Carved by the meandering Nanjiang River over millennia, it blends dramatic gorges, thundering waterfalls, lush forests, and thrilling adventures, making it a must-visit for nature lovers and adventure seekers traveling through Guizhou.

Core Attractions & Experiences

Karst Canyon Scenery: Wander along cliffside plank roads that hug the canyon walls, offering unobstructed views of steep limestone peaks, green river valleys, and unique rock formations like the "Nanjiang Great Seal." The air is fresh with the scent of foliage, and the sound of flowing water accompanies every step, creating a serene yet awe-inspiring atmosphere.

Waterfall Wonders: Discover a series of stunning waterfalls throughout the scenic area, including Tianwaitian Waterfall (Beyond Heaven Waterfall) and Jinzhong Waterfall (Golden Bell Waterfall). Each cascade boasts its own charm—some plunge from great heights with misty sprays, while others gently cascade over rocky ledges, perfect for photo opportunities.

Thrilling Rafting: Experience the canyon’s most popular activity with two rafting options. The 5km Leisure Rafting (ideal for families and beginners) winds through calm sections of the river, ending at Tiziyan Restaurant. For adrenaline seekers, the 8km Adventure Rafting navigates more exciting rapids, concluding at Mandarin Duck Lake (Yuanyang Lake).

Mandarin Duck Lake & Mountain Top Views: After rafting, relax at Mandarin Duck Lake, a spacious water surface surrounded by green hills. Choose to take a cable car to the mountain top for panoramic vistas of the entire canyon, or challenge yourself with a hike up over 900 stone steps—either way, you’ll be rewarded with sweeping views of the karst peaks and winding river below. A free shuttle bus is available at the top to take you back to the scenic area entrance.

Unique Charms

Rich Ecology: The canyon is a lush green haven, with dense vegetation covering the slopes. It’s home to diverse flora and fauna, and the clean, oxygen-rich air makes it a perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

Cultural Touches: Immerse yourself in local culture by staying at 布依 Village or Tiziyan Resort. Many accommodations host free bonfire parties in the evening, where you can experience traditional Buyi ethnic music and dances.

Delicious Local Cuisine: Don’t miss the chance to savor specialty dishes at Tiziyan Restaurant, such as selenium-rich bacon and Nanjiang small flower fish—flavors that reflect the region’s agricultural bounty.
