What to expect

Amsterdam's Stedelijk Museum, the permanent home of the Dutch National Museum of Modern Art, has one of the richest modern art collections in the world. As well as regularly rotating temporary exhibitions, the museum houses many modern classics.The permanent collection of the Stedelijk (Dutch for 'municipal') Museum includes works from leading lights of 19th- and 20th-century painting. Artists include Monet, Picasso and Chagall - as well as Pop Art from Warhol and Lichtenstein. There are also abstracts by Mondrian and Kandinsky, a unique collection of 29 paintings by influential avant-garde painter Casimir Malevich, and a whole lot more. With a collection of 90,000 works of art in its 9,000m2 of exhibition space, there's sure to be something for everyone. This cutting-edge publication had a huge impact on the art world. This temporary exhibition, part of the 100th anniversary of De Stijl, reveals how the magazine's legacy still resonates today.One of the most impressive Eastern European artists of the 20th century, Edward Krasiński (1925-2004), was also a prominent figure in the 1960s and 1970s Polish avant-garde era. This is the first retrospective of his work in the Netherlands.
