Navigate effortlessly with location-based distance guides to nearby attractions, making every adventure on Udo convenient and budget-friendly.

Local Legends & Stories

Udo is said to have been formed from a dragon's tear that fell into the sea, which is why the island's shape resembles a resting dragon. Local legend also tells of a mythical horse that roamed the island's hills, which is why horse-drawn carriage rides remain a beloved tradition to this day.

Must Do Experiences

Friedensreich Hundertwasser (December 15, 1928 - February 19, 2000), also known as Friedensreich Hundertwasser or Mr. Hundertwasser, was an Austrian painter and sculptor. There is a special Friedensreich Hundertwasser Art Museum on Udo Island in Jeju City. Here, you can not only appreciate beautiful paintings, but also fully enjoy the attractions of Udo Island. Udo Island, also known as Coral Island, Haenyeo Island, and Lighthouse Island, is a small island located in the east of Jeju. The whole island is shaped like a lying cow, hence the name Udo Island. Except for the parasitic volcano Utau Peak on Hallasan Mountain, Udo Island has a flat terrain as a whole, and the cliffs are steep where it faces the sea. 80% of the filming of "The Little Mermaid" starring Jeon Do-yeon was done on Udo Island. Choi Ji-woo's "The Twin Branches" and Jun Ji-hyun's "The Untouchables" were both filmed on Udo Island, and Udo Island has become one of Jeju's representative tourist attractions. The peak that stands on the flat land of Udo is Udubong. The unique height not only allows you to have a panoramic view of Udo, but also to see Seongsan Ilchulbong. Climb up the hillside along the fence until you reach the top of the hill, and you will arrive in front of the white lighthouse. The path connecting the lawn and the reed field seems to be more attractive than the view from the top of the lighthouse. A few cows are scattered in the bushes, which reminds people of the name of the island. Unknown wild flowers sway in the wind, as romantic as a lyric poem. There are also miniature models of Sokcho Lighthouse and Buda Lighthouse on display here. The road to the lighthouse is very steep, and the elderly, weak and sick are not suitable for climbing. In addition, the "Eight Views of Udo" are the representative scenery of Udo, which includes four pairs of scenery: day and night (bright moon in the daytime, fishing sails at night), sky and earth (Tianjin Guanshan, Jitou Qingsha), front and back (front Puwang Island, Houhai Stone Wall), east and west (East Coast Whale Cave, West Coast White Sand). Below the towering Niutou Peak are Houhai Rock Wall and Dongan Whale Cave, two of the eight scenic spots on Niu Island. Houhai Rock Wall is 20m high and 30m wide, surrounding the Black Sand Beach, which is famous for its black sand beach. Dongan Whale Cave, located at the end of the beach, is one of the famous caves on Niu Island. It is also called the "nose cave" because it can accommodate whales from the east. Dongan Whale Cave has a cave inside the cave, and the entrance is only visible at low tide. It is another experience to enjoy the sky and sea view outside from inside the cave.
