The New Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum, officially opening on November 26, 2000, is Taiwan's first professional museum dedicated to ceramics. Dedicated to the investigation, collection, preservation, and conservation of Taiwanese ceramic culture, the museum engages in research, archiving, exhibition, and educational outreach. It actively promotes international exchange and collaboration, hosting international artist residencies, joining the International Council of Museums, and establishing sister museum partnerships with museums in Germany and Spain. The museum also secured the right to host the 2018 International Ceramics Society World Congress, showcasing the beauty of Taiwanese ceramics internationally and showcasing the vibrant and vibrant beauty of Taiwanese ceramics.
The Ceramics Museum's architectural form features a gray exterior constructed of exposed concrete and steel. Its high ceilings, sober colors, and extensive glass curtain walls allow natural light to filter in. The continuous, layered flow of sunlight created by the exposed concrete, washed stone walls, gray stone, and tan wood exterior creates a rich, layered effect. The richness of the exhibits is reflected in the rich, textured interior space. Upon ascending the stone steps at the Ceramics Museum's entrance, one is greeted by the sound and visual effects of the large water wall and pool, evoking a sense of calm and a shifting of emotions.
1. First Floor: This floor houses a ceramics collection (cultural merchandise store), a consultation and service area, a ceramics stage, permanent exhibitions, and a special exhibition room. In addition to permanent and special exhibitions, various performances and experiential activities are also held from time to time.
2. Second Floor: The museum's permanent exhibition focuses on the development of Taiwanese ceramics, divided into five major themes: "Transformation from Clay," "Reflections on Our Origins," "Kaizi Town," "Journey Through Time," and "Future Prophecy." Using a variety of exhibits, graphics, videos, and interactive technology, the museum creates a variety of display scenarios, guiding visitors into Taiwan's diverse and rich ceramic culture.
3. Third Floor: Located on this floor is the Special Exhibition Room, where the museum curates several special exhibitions each year, allowing the public to experience the beauty of ceramics.
4. Basement 1 & 2: The basement level houses the Information Center, International Lecture Hall, Children's Experience Room, Ceramics Gallery, and a restaurant. The basement level 2 houses the Ceramics Workshop. Here, visitors can enjoy small themed exhibitions by ceramic artists and groups from around the world, and participate in hands-on classes for those aged four and above to experience the joy of pottery. The International Lecture Hall, in addition to scheduled film screenings, also hosts occasional academic and lecture events, and also offers venue rental services. The Information Center, a specialized library attached to the museum, houses books, journals, and audio-visual materials related to ceramics, art, and museums. The library's collection is also open to the public (books and other materials are not available for loan).
The restaurant offers 152 seats in an elegant environment, allowing visitors to enjoy meals and drinks in a relaxed atmosphere.
