Sam-Sìu Garden is a traditional Chinese-style garden featuring classical elements such as koi ponds, curved bridges, pavilions, and carefully pruned bonsai, located in the Datong District of Taipei.
The garden is open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with last entry at 4:30 PM, and remains open throughout the year including public holidays.
Admission to Sam-Sìu Garden is free of charge for all visitors.
Most visitors spend between 45 and 90 minutes exploring the main pathways, ponds, and pavilions at a relaxed pace.
The nearest MRT station is Zhongxiao Dunhua Station (Blue Line), and the garden is approximately a 10-minute walk or a short ride via YouBike or bus from there.
Most main pathways are paved and relatively flat, but some sections include gentle slopes, uneven stone stepping stones near the pond, and steps to the upper pavilion, limiting full accessibility.
Free guided tours in Mandarin and English are offered on weekends and holidays at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM; no reservation is required.
Personal photography and non-commercial videography are permitted throughout the garden, though tripods and drones require prior permission from management.
There are no food or beverage vendors within the garden itself, but several small eateries and tea houses are located within a 5-minute walk along Shilin Road Section 1.
Taipei has high humidity year-round; the garden is most pleasant from October to March when temperatures are cooler and rainfall is less frequent, though autumn brings colorful foliage and spring offers blooming plum and magnolia trees.

Sanxiu Garden is a private garden with a history of 150 years during the Japanese colonial period. The garden covers a vast area of about 10,000 square meters and is called "Sanjianzai" or "Zhang Family Garden" by the locals. It is named "Sanxiu Garden" because the trees in the garden are parasitic on Ganoderma lucidum. The garden is full of flowers and trees, green and beautiful. The pond is in a T-shape, surrounded by bamboo forests, wild geese and water birds live in it, and there are many pavilions of different types for people to rest and stop to browse. In spring, flowers bloom and insects and birds sing, and in autumn, fallen leaves turn red and pile up. You will have different feelings when you come here to enjoy the garden scenery in four seasons. Sanxiu Garden holds markets, concerts, and art and cultural activities from time to time, and is open every Saturday and Sunday. This is not only a good place to enjoy the garden scenery, but also a place to experience Taiwan's traditional gardens and history.
