About Paii @ The House on Sathorn
Paii @ The House on Sathorn offers a modern Thai seafood experience in the heart of Bangkok's historic Sathorn district, blending culinary excellence with the elegant legacy of the iconic Landmark building. Travellers should book this dining package for its unique storytelling — honoring Luang Sathorn Rajayutka’s canal-building legacy — and its 8-dish sharing menu paired with signature cocktails crafted to highlight fresh regional catches.
Local Legends & Stories
Paii derives its name from the Thai word for “to paddle,” paying homage to the fishermen and canal workers who once navigated the Sathorn Canal — a waterway engineered under Luang Sathorn Rajayutka in the 1920s to improve Bangkok’s drainage and transportation. Locals still call the area “Klong Sathorn,” preserving the memory of this visionary public servant.
Must Do Experiences
-
Try the signature River Prawn with tamarind-and-chili glaze, a tribute to local irrigation traditions
-
Sip a themed cocktail like the Sathorn currents — a refreshing blend of lemongrass, lime, and coconut water
-
Explore the heritage rooms of The House on Sathorn before or after your meal to appreciate its early 20th-century architecture
-
Capture sunset views from the riverside terrace overlooking the Chao Phraya River
Hidden Gems
-
Ask your server about the chef’s seasonal “Canal Catch” — a rotating off-menu dish inspired by historical Sathorn Canal fisherman techniques
-
The wine list includes rare Thai-grown grape varietals paired thoughtfully with spicy seafood dishes
-
Behind the bar, you’ll find vintage maps of Bangkok’s waterways — including original blueprints of the Sathorn Canal
What Makes it Special
-
Every dish tells a story rooted in Thai coastal heritage with a modern reinterpretation led by Chef Joe Weeraket Nilayon
-
The restaurant sits within The House on Sathorn, a nationally heritage-listed property once used by Thailand’s first naval engineering pioneers
-
Dishes are paired with curated mocktails and cocktails inspired by the city’s river culture and maritime trade history
Available Facilities
Perfect Timing
When to visit for the best experience
Book a 6:30pm or 7:00pm reservation to catch the golden hour lighting on the Chao Phraya River from the terrace. The restaurant is busiest on weekends, so weekday evenings offer a quieter, more intimate experience. Avoid rainy season afternoons (June–October) when river access and terrace seating may be limited.
Photography Guide
Capture the perfect shots
-
Use the river-facing windows for natural light shots of your dish during late afternoon (4:30–6:00pm)
-
Snap a candid of the vintage waterway maps displayed behind the bar — they make compelling travel mementos
-
Tripods require prior approval due to heritage building restrictions; flash photography is discouraged near archival displays
Cultural Etiquette
Respect local customs and traditions
Remove your shoes before entering the private heritage salon areas during post-dinner tea service Avoid pointing your feet toward others or touching people’s heads, as both are considered disrespectful in Thai culture Tipping is not expected but appreciated — a small 10% gesture left with your server goes directly to the culinary team
Special Events & Experiences
Enhanced experiences and seasonal highlights
-
Monthly “Canal Night” on the last Thursday of each month features live acoustic Thai jazz and a special tasting menu inspired by river festival traditions
-
During Songkran (April), the restaurant offers a non-alcoholic “Water Blessing” ceremony for guests — a gentle, symbolic thank-you from the team
-
Valentine’s and Mid-Autumn festivals include curated couples’ menus — inquire at booking for seasonal availability
Important Guidelines & Safety
Essential safety information and guidelines
-
The restaurant has slip-resistant flooring near the entrance but caution is advised during peak monsoon hours when the historic building’s wooden floors may be damp
-

-
First aid and epinephrine auto-injectors are available upon request — just ask your service liaison
