About St. Paul's Cathedral
Soar above London from the iconic dome of St. Paul's Cathedral, Sir Christopher Wren's architectural masterpiece that has dominated the skyline for over 300 years. Climb through whispering galleries and golden viewpoints, then explore centuries of history in the hallowed crypt below — an unforgettable journey through faith, art, and engineering.
Must Do Experiences
-
Climb the 530 steps to the Golden Gallery for panoramic views spanning the Thames to the Shard.
-
Explore the Whispering Gallery, where a whisper against the wall can be heard clearly on the opposite side.
-
Discover the breathtaking interior mosaics and the magnificent dome's painted ceiling.
Hidden Gems
-
The Stone Gallery offers a rare peek through gaps in the cathedral walls, giving you a unique perspective of the structure's inner architecture.
-
The crypt houses the tombs of naval heroes including Horatio Nelson and the Duke of Wellington — a moving tribute to British history.
-
Visit the cathedral's lesser-known chapels for a moment of quiet reflection away from the main crowds.
What Makes it Special
-
One of the most recognisable landmarks in the world, St. Paul's has stood as a place of worship for over 1,400 years across three cathedral structures.
Available Facilities
Perfect Timing
When to visit for the best experience
Visit on a weekday morning for the shortest queues and most peaceful atmosphere. Late autumn and winter offer fewer tourists and a magical glow through the cathedral's stained glass windows.
Photography Guide
Capture the perfect shots
-
The interior dome and mosaics are best captured with a wide-angle lens — flash is not permitted inside.
Cultural Etiquette
Respect local customs and traditions
St. Paul's is an active place of worship, so dress modestly and maintain a respectful volume. Remove hats in the nave and silence mobile phones before entering the worship areas.
Special Events & Experiences
Enhanced experiences and seasonal highlights
-
Christmas carol services and midnight Mass draw large, joyful crowds each December.
-
Remembrance Sunday ceremonies honour fallen soldiers with profound solemnity and pageantry.
Important Guidelines & Safety
Essential safety information and guidelines
-
Wear comfortable shoes for the 530-step climb to the Golden Gallery — the steps are narrow and uneven in places.
