The park itself was designed by the legendary Olmsted Brothers landscape architecture firm, the same team behind Central Park in New York.

Perfect Timing

Photography Guide

Capture the perfect shots

  • The golden morning light filtering through the trees creates perfect portraits at the primate exhibits

  • The giraffe feeding platform offers dramatic close-up shots that showcase these magnificent creatures

  • Visit the reptile house during midday when the ambient lighting highlights the vibrant colors of exotic species

Cultural Etiquette

Respect local customs and traditions

American zoo etiquette encourages quiet observation to avoid stressing the animals, so keep voices at a gentle level. Feeding the animals is only permitted at designated stations with approved food, a practice that protects both visitors and wildlife. Respect the no-photography-flash rules as bright flashes can startle sensitive species.

  • Spring baby animal season brings rare opportunities to see newborn elephants, giraffes, and primates with their mothers

Important Guidelines & Safety

Essential safety information and guidelines

  • Keep a respectful distance from all animal enclosures as barriers are designed for your protection and the animals welfare

  • Supervise children closely near exhibit edges, especially at the reptile house where pathways can be narrow
