Notes
Overview
Opened in 1935, this was one of the first open-air aquariums in Florida, and it has kept that period character — concrete tanks under an open roof, sea air moving through, and a collection focused tightly on what lives in the waters just offshore.
Nurse and bonnethead sharks circle the main tank, tarpon hang motionless in the shallows, barracuda and moray eels occupy the reef exhibits, and sea turtles rest in their own pool. A large touch tank lets you handle conch, sea stars and horseshoe crabs, and a stingray pool sits alongside.
Guided tours and feedings run several times a day and are the best part of the visit — staff talk about the reef, hurricanes, and conservation work while handling the animals in front of you. It sits right on Mallory Square, steps from the sunset crowds and Duval Street.
