About Cage of Death Tandem Dive
Plunge into the ultimate thrill with the Cage of Death Tandem Dive at Crocosaurus Cove in Darwin. Experience a heart-pounding 15-minute underwater encounter with Australia's largest saltwater crocodiles, coming face-to-face with beasts up to 5 metres long. This exclusive package also includes full-day entry to explore the rest of the spectacular reptile park.
Local Legends & Stories
Saltwater crocodiles hold deep spiritual significance for the Larrakia people, the traditional owners of the Darwin region, who respect them as powerful apex predators. Many of the resident crocodiles at the cove, like the famous Chopper, have legendary status in the Northern Territory for their massive size and incredible survival stories.
Must Do Experiences
-
Brave the 15-minute Cage of Death tandem dive and lock eyes with a massive saltwater crocodile.
-
Explore the rest of Crocosaurus Cove with your included full-day admission to see baby crocs and other Top End reptiles.
-
Catch the daily crocodile feeding shows to witness the raw power and agility of these prehistoric predators.
Hidden Gems
-
Head to the turtle sanctuary within the cove for a relaxing contrast to the adrenaline-pumping croc dive.
-
Ask the handlers about the individual personalities of the crocodiles—many are famous local rescue animals with incredible backstories.
-
Check out the 200,000-litre freshwater aquarium to spot Barramundi and Whiprays native to the Northern Territory.
What Makes it Special
-
It is Australia's first and only crocodile dive experience.
-
You get a guaranteed 360-degree underwater view of apex predators up to 5 metres in length.
-
The clear acrylic cage provides an incredibly safe yet terrifyingly close face-to-face encounter.
Available Facilities
Perfect Timing
When to visit for the best experience
The Cage of Death operates year-round, but visiting during the dry season (May to October) offers the most comfortable weather for exploring the rest of Darwin. Book a morning dive to beat the midday heat and enjoy the park when the animals are often most active.
Photography Guide
Capture the perfect shots
-
While you cannot take your own camera into the cage, professional onsite photographers capture the entire dive from multiple angles.
-
Purchase the photo package afterward to get high-quality underwater shots of you and the crocodile.
-
For the rest of the park, use a polarizing filter on your camera lens to cut through the glass glare at the reptile enclosures.
Cultural Etiquette
Respect local customs and traditions
Respect the animals and the handlers' instructions at all times, as these are wild and dangerous creatures. Acknowledge the Larrakia people, the traditional custodians of the land on which Darwin and Crocosaurus Cove sit, by learning about their connection to the local wildlife.
Special Events & Experiences
Enhanced experiences and seasonal highlights
-
Crocosaurus Cove often hosts special feeding sessions and educational talks during the Australian school holidays.
-
Look out for special Halloween or Christmas-themed events where the park decorations and animal enrichment activities get a festive twist.
Important Guidelines & Safety
Essential safety information and guidelines
-
Listen carefully to the mandatory safety briefing and follow all instructions given by the dive masters.
-
Keep your hands and feet inside the designated areas of the cage at all times.
-
Ensure you are in good health and not under the influence of alcohol or drugs before participating in the dive.
