Yes — an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA, subclass 601) must be obtained before travel. It is applied for through the official Australian ETA mobile app for a AUD 20 service charge and allows stays up to 90 days per entry over 12 months.
No. India is not on the ETA or eVisitor eligible-country lists. Indian nationals must apply for the full Visitor visa (subclass 600) online via ImmiAccount.
