Overview
Journey away from the Tasmanian capital with a tour from Hobart to Maria Island to see its famed range of diverse nature, flora and fauna for a full day. Located only an hour away from Hobart, Maria Island is accessed via boat ride and presents the opportunity to explore beautiful scenery and encounter an abundance of local wildlife. While on the island you'll be able to explore some of its highlights on foot including the Painted Cliffs, Fossil Cliffs and the Darlington World Heritage convict site. There are no cars on the island so be prepared to feel detached from life on the mainland as you journey every where on foot and revel in the peacefulness of no traffic. If visiting in the warmer months be sure to bring your swimmers as the beaches are the perfect escape from the crowded beaches on the mainland. The island is commonly considered to be a 'Noah's Ark', as it is rich with wildlife from wallabies and kangaroos to rare Cape Barren Geese, wombats and the recently relocated Tasmanian Devils. The land isn't the only part of the island brimming with wildlife, the waters surrounding are often frequented by dolphins, seals, penguins and whales during migration season. This is an enjoyable day to a lesser known destination off the coast of Tasmania. Guests are asked to bring all necessities themselves and be able to carry it all for the entire day. The island has limited facilities, meaning food and water is to be bought prior and brought on the trip. As mentioned above, getting around the island is by foot only and tour groups will cover up to 10 kilometres all of which is considered an easy grade. Tours depart on Mondays and Thursdays between December at April at 7:30am to return at 7pm, hot transfers to and from the departure point are also organised to pick up times may vary depending on your location.
