Any tips for taking the Shinkansen with a large backpack?

Luggage forwarding (takkyubin) is a game-changer — send your big bags between hotels for about $15 and travel light on the train. If you must bring a large bag, reserve a green car or first-class seat where there's extra luggage space. The older Shinkansen lines have smaller overhead racks.
