I'm torn on are credit cards accepted widely in Samarkand, or should I carry cash — the reviews are all over the place.

Credit cards work in higher‑end hotels, upscale restaurants, and larger shops, but many bazaars, small cafés, and transport vendors prefer cash. Carry Uzbek som in small bills for markets and entry fees, and use ATMs in the city center for withdrawals.
