Marrakech vs Fes for a first Morocco trip, which is better for a 4-night stay?

For a first trip, Marrakech wins on energy: it's walkable, the medina is iconic, and day trips to the Atlas Mountains and Essaouira are easy. Fes is more authentic and less touristy but feels heavier and more intense. If you can, do 2 nights in each and you'll get the best of both.
