About 1-day tour to Beppu hells, African safari and Yufuin with Yufuin no Mori train experience
Escape the bustling city of Fukuoka for a magical day exploring Kyushu's geothermal wonders, artistic hot spring towns, and thrilling wildlife on this comprehensive 1-day tour. Ride the vintage Yufuin-no-Mori train through lush forests, witness the striking azure waters of Umi Jigoku, and get up close with exotic animals at the Kyushu African Safari. It is the perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural charm, and family-friendly adventure.
Local Legends & Stories
Local folklore claims that the boiling mud and steaming waters of the Beppu Hells were created by the wrath of a volcanic deity, making them sacred grounds where ancient monks once meditated. Yufuin's Kinrin Lake is named after the golden fish scales that legend says shimmered on the water's surface at sunset.

Available Facilities
Perfect Timing
When to visit for the best experience
This tour operates year-round, but autumn offers spectacular foliage views from the Yufuin-no-Mori train, while spring brings pleasant weather for the safari. Since this is a full-day guided itinerary, the schedule is optimized to hit Yufuin and Beppu during their most picturesque daylight hours, avoiding the heaviest midday crowds where possible.
Photography Guide
Capture the perfect shots
-
Capture the striking contrast of the bright blue Umi Jigoku waters against the white steam and red shrine gates for a dramatic shot
-
Use a fast shutter speed or burst mode on the safari bus to get sharp, action-packed photos of the lions and cheetahs
-
Take advantage of the golden hour lighting if you visit Kinrin Lake in the late afternoon to capture the mystical steam rising off the water
Cultural Etiquette
Respect local customs and traditions
When exploring Yufuin's traditional streets and shrine areas, maintain a respectful and quiet demeanor, especially near local residents' homes. While Japan is largely a cash-based society in rural areas, many Yufuin boutiques now accept cards, but carrying some yen is wise for small street snacks or foot bath donations. Tipping is not practiced in Japan, so a simple bow and a polite arigato gozaimasu is the best way to thank your guide and drivers.
Special Events & Experiences
Enhanced experiences and seasonal highlights
-
Yufuin's Bamboo Lantern Festival in autumn illuminates the town and Kinrin Lake with thousands of glowing lanterns, creating a magical evening atmosphere
-
The Beppu Hells are beautifully illuminated during special winter light-up events, casting an eerie and beautiful glow through the volcanic steam
-
Springtime brings the Yufuin Hot Spring Festival, featuring traditional dances, local food stalls, and discounted onsen entry around the town
Important Guidelines & Safety
Essential safety information and guidelines
-
Stay strictly within the designated pathways at Umi Jigoku, as the geothermal waters are near boiling point and can cause severe burns
-
Keep all windows closed and hands inside the vehicle during the Kyushu African Safari to ensure your safety around the wild animals
-
Stay hydrated throughout the day, especially when walking around the steaming Beppu Hells where the ambient temperature and humidity can be quite high

Visit Duration
This is a full-day excursion lasting approximately 10 to 12 hours from Fukuoka, with carefully timed stops at each major attraction.
