What to expect
The Nomura-ke Samurai Residence in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, is a beautifully preserved historic residence that offers an authentic glimpse into Japan's samurai heritage. Once home to Nomura Denbee Nobusada, a senior retainer of the Maeda clan, the residence served as a gathering place for middle- to upper-ranking samurai. Visitors can admire over 400 years of traditional architecture, including distinctive T-shaped and L-shaped alleyways, earthen gates, wooden plank roofs, and ochre-colored clay walls, all of which reflect the elegance and craftsmanship of the Edo period.
Beyond its historical significance, the residence is renowned for its serene Japanese garden, featuring a flowing stream, cascading waterfall, granite bridge, and a 400-year-old laurel tree. Guests can enjoy a cup of matcha in the upstairs teahouse while overlooking the tranquil landscape, creating a memorable cultural experience. Inside the residence, displays of samurai swords and armor further immerse visitors in Japan's feudal past, making the Nomura-ke Samurai Residence a remarkable destination where history, culture, and nature come together in perfect harmony.
