About Izu Jogasaki Coast, Mt. Omuro, and Sea View Train Small Group Day Tour | Tokyo
Escape the bustling city of Tokyo on this intimate small-group day tour to the breathtaking Izu Peninsula. You will ride the scenic Sea View Train, walk across the thrilling Jogasaki Coast Suspension Bridge, and stand atop Mt. Omuro, the real-life inspiration for the anime film Your Name. With a maximum of nine travellers and a bilingual guide, this tour offers a personalized and seamless journey through Japan's stunning coastal landscapes.
Local Legends & Stories
Mt. Omuro is deeply tied to local folklore and Shinto traditions, often referred to as a sacred mountain where ancient rituals were performed to pray for good harvests and protection from natural disasters. The dramatic jagged cliffs of the Jogasaki Coast are said to be the remnants of a fierce battle between mountain deities, frozen in time as volcanic rock.

Available Facilities
Perfect Timing
When to visit for the best experience
The ideal time to embark on this tour is during the spring months of March to May when the weather is mild and the coastal flora is in full bloom. Early morning departures offer the clearest skies for photographing Mt. Omuro and the ocean, while autumn provides stunning foliage contrasts against the volcanic rock. Avoid Japanese public holidays and Golden Week if you prefer a quieter experience at the suspension bridge and cable car.
Photography Guide
Capture the perfect shots
-
Capture the iconic bowl shape of Mt. Omuro by shooting from the designated observation decks at the Izu Shaboten Zoo before taking the cable car up.
-
Use a fast shutter speed when photographing from the Jogasaki Suspension Bridge to compensate for the swaying motion and capture sharp images of the crashing waves below.
-
Frame your shots of the Sea View Train with the ocean in the background during the brief station stops for the perfect vintage travel aesthetic.
Cultural Etiquette
Respect local customs and traditions
When visiting the small shrines located around the rim of Mt. Omuro, it is respectful to bow slightly before entering the torii gates and to keep your voice down. Tipping is not practiced in Japan, so simply express your gratitude to your guide and drivers with a polite arigato gozaimasu instead. Please stay on the marked paths along the Jogasaki Coast to protect the fragile volcanic ecosystem and respect local conservation efforts.
Special Events & Experiences
Enhanced experiences and seasonal highlights
-
The Jogasaki Coast area hosts spectacular summer fireworks festivals in late July and August, illuminating the night sky over the ocean.
-
Mt. Omuro's annual Yamayaki mountain burning festival usually takes place in February or March, where the dry grass on the mountain is set alight to create a striking ring of fire.
-
The Izu Shaboten Zoo features special capybara hot spring bathing events during the colder winter months, offering adorable and heartwarming photo opportunities.
Important Guidelines & Safety
Essential safety information and guidelines
-
Hold onto the handrails tightly while crossing the Jogasaki Coast Suspension Bridge, as it can sway noticeably in the strong coastal winds.
-
Stay well behind the safety barriers and warning signs along the cliff edges, as the volcanic rock can be loose and unstable near the drop-offs.
-
Apply sunscreen and wear a hat even on cloudy days, as the UV reflection off the Pacific Ocean and the exposed crater rim of Mt. Omuro can cause unexpected sunburns.
Visitor Information
Entry Fee
The base tour price includes round-trip shared transfers and an English-speaking guide, but excludes the Mt. Omuro Cable Car and Izu Shaboten Zoo admission fees. Expect to pay around 1,000 yen for adult cable car tickets and approximately 2,600 yen for adult zoo entry, with discounted rates available for children and seniors on-site.
Visit Duration
This full-day tour lasts approximately ten to eleven hours from the morning Shinjuku pickup to the evening drop-off. If you are short on time at Mt. Omuro, prioritize the cable car ride to the crater rim for the most spectacular panoramic views of the Izu Peninsula and the Pacific Ocean.
Accessibility
While the private transfer vehicle and most ground-level areas at the Izu Shaboten Zoo are wheelchair accessible, the Jogasaki Coast Suspension Bridge and the steep crater rim of Mt. Omuro are not suitable for wheelchairs or mobility scooters. The Mt. Omuro Cable Car can accommodate folded wheelchairs, but visitors should consult with the guide regarding specific mobility needs prior to booking.
