About SKY MIRROR & SEKINCHAN FIELD DAY TOUR (SIC - Join In Tour)
This day tour to Kuala Selangor offers a rare chance to walk on the magical Sky Mirror, a naturally reflective salt flat island that appears only during specific lunar phases, and explore the serene rice fields of Sekinchan — a perfect blend of natural wonder and rural charm just a short drive from Kuala Lumpur.
Local Legends & Stories
Locals believe the Sky Mirror's clarity is enhanced by the cleansing energy of the moon — some say the best reflections appear on nights when the moon shines brightest before low tide. Sekinchan has long been known as the 'Rice Bowl of Selangor', with generations of farmers relying on ancient irrigation systems still in use today.
Must Do Experiences
-
Walk barefoot across the glass-like surface of Sky Mirror at low tide
-
Take photos with your feet seemingly floating above the clouds
-
Watch for pink dolphins and diverse shore wildlife at Sasaran Beach
-
Explore the historic Sekinchan Rice Factory and learn about rice production
Hidden Gems
-
The Sky Mirror is often empty of crowds if booked for early pick-up times before 6am
-
Sasaran Beach hides a small mangrove area perfect for close-up crab and mollusk spotting
-
Sekinchan’s quiet village lanes behind the main rice fields offer charming local homestays
What Makes it Special
-
Sky Mirror appears only 7–10 days per lunar month — access is strictly tied to tidal and moon cycles
-
A rare combination of two contrasting landscapes: oceanic mirror effect and lush agricultural scenery
-
Guided by local drivers familiar with tide patterns and hidden vantage points
Available Facilities
Perfect Timing
When to visit for the best experience
The Sky Mirror is best viewed within 4 days before or after the 1st and 15th of the lunar calendar, during early morning low tide — this tour prioritizes the 5:00am or 5:30am slots for optimal lighting and fewer crowds. Weather is reliably warm year-round, but aim for dry, clear days to maximize the mirror effect.
Photography Guide
Capture the perfect shots
-
Best photo spots are at the centre of Sky Mirror where reflections are clearest — avoid midday when the sun glare washes out the scene
-
Shoot during golden hour (early morning or late afternoon) for warm tones and soft shadows
-
No drones allowed without prior permission from local authorities — check with your guide first
Cultural Etiquette
Respect local customs and traditions
Remove shoes before entering homes or religious sites in Sekinchan village — your guide will advise when this applies It’s polite to say 'terima kasih' (thank you) to locals and avoid loud behaviour near rice fields Tipping isn’t expected but appreciated for exceptional service — RM5–10 per person is customary
Special Events & Experiences
Enhanced experiences and seasonal highlights
-
The annual Sekinchan Rice Harvest Festival usually takes place in June–July, featuring local food stalls and cultural performances
-
Lunar New Year and Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival periods bring festive lantern displays at the Rice Factory
-
Peak tourism months (Dec–Jan, July, school holidays) mean longer queues — early-tour slots are strongly recommended
Important Guidelines & Safety
Essential safety information and guidelines
-
Sky Mirror’s surface can be uneven — watch your step and avoid running, especially near muddy patches
-
Mosquito activity is higher near mangroves — wear long sleeves and use DEET-based repellent
-
Stay hydrated and rest in the shade if feeling dizzy — temperatures often exceed 30°C even on cloudy days
Visitor Information
Entry Fee
The MYR 280 price includes round-trip transport, Sky Mirror boat ride, insurance, guide services, and Rice Factory admission — no hidden fees but meals and personal purchases are extra
Visit Duration
The tour lasts approximately 10 hours from hotel pickup to return — if pressed for time, prioritise Sky Mirror at low tide and the Rice Factory tour, as Sekinchan village exploration is flexible
Accessibility
Sky Mirror is not wheelchair accessible due to uneven terrain and shallow water entry — the Sekinchan Rice Factory has limited ramp access but no elevators; inform your guide in advance if you require special assistance
