About [Hong Kong and Macau Exclusive] 7-Day JR Pass Hokuriku Arch Rail Pass (Physical Voucher) Transport Passes
Unlock the beauty of Japan's Hokuriku region with the exclusive 7-Day JR Hokuriku Arch Rail Pass, offering unlimited travel between Tokyo or Kansai and stunning destinations like Kanazawa and Toyama. Perfect for explorers wanting to venture off the beaten path, this physical voucher provides seamless access to scenic coastal routes, historic castles, and alpine landscapes. Book now to experience the perfect blend of traditional culture and breathtaking nature on one convenient rail pass.
Local Legends & Stories
The Hokuriku region is steeped in samurai history and folklore, particularly in Kanazawa, which was ruled by the powerful Maeda clan and famously escaped the destruction of World War II. Local legends speak of the mystical spirits residing in the ancient forests of Mount Hakusan, which have inspired centuries of local art, gold leaf craftsmanship, and traditional Noh theater.
Must Do Experiences
-
Ride the scenic Hokuriku Shinkansen to Kanazawa and explore the beautifully preserved Kenrokuen Garden, one of Japan's top three landscape gardens.
-
Take a day trip to the historic Shirakawa-go village from Toyama to see the iconic thatched-roof farmhouses nestled in the mountains.
-
Wander through the atmospheric Higashi Chaya District in Kanazawa, the city's historic geisha quarter, and enjoy traditional matcha and gold leaf ice cream.
-
Experience the breathtaking coastal views along the Sea of Japan while riding local JR lines between Fukui and Kanazawa.
Hidden Gems
-
Visit the Togyo-tei teahouse in Kanazawa for a quiet, authentic matcha experience away from the larger crowds at Kenrokuen.
-
Explore the lesser-known but stunning Kaga Yamanaka Onsen near Fukui, offering relaxing hot springs and traditional crafts without the tourist rush.
-
Discover the unique seafood culture at Omicho Market in Kanazawa early in the morning to watch locals bid on fresh snow crabs and yellowtail before the tourist crowds arrive.
What Makes it Special
-
This exclusive pass is specifically tailored for travelers from Hong Kong and Macau, offering a seamless and cost-effective way to explore the less-touristed Hokuriku region.
-
It provides incredible flexibility by allowing you to start your journey from either the Kansai area or Tokyo, making it easy to integrate into any Japan itinerary.
-
The physical voucher exchange process ensures you have a tangible, commemorative ticket while granting unlimited rides on both the high-speed Hokuriku Shinkansen and local JR lines.
Available Facilities
Perfect Timing
When to visit for the best experience
The Hokuriku region is spectacular in autumn for vibrant foliage and in winter for magical snowscapes and fresh snow crab season. Spring offers beautiful cherry blossoms, particularly around Kanazawa Castle, while summer provides lush green landscapes and lively local festivals. Train services run year-round, but booking Shinkansen seat reservations early is crucial during Golden Week, Obon, and New Year holidays.
Photography Guide
Capture the perfect shots
-
Capture the stunning coastal views from the right side of the train when traveling north towards Kanazawa, especially during the golden hour just before sunset.
-
When photographing the historic thatched-roof houses in Shirakawa-go or traditional streetscapes in Kanazawa, early morning light provides the best illumination and helps you avoid heavy crowds.
-
Remember to be respectful of local privacy and avoid using flash photography inside historic wooden buildings or when taking pictures of geisha in the Higashi Chaya District.
Cultural Etiquette
Respect local customs and traditions
When traveling on Japanese trains, it is considered polite to keep your voice down, put your phone on silent mode, and avoid taking phone calls while on board. If you visit traditional ryokans or temples in the Hokuriku region, always remove your shoes before entering tatami-matted areas and follow the specific bathing etiquette at public onsen. Tipping is not practiced in Japan, so simply offer a polite bow and a warm thank you to express your gratitude for excellent service.
Special Events & Experiences
Enhanced experiences and seasonal highlights
-
Kanazawa Hyakumangoku Matsuri in early June celebrates the arrival of Lord Maeda Toshiie with spectacular samurai parades and traditional tea ceremonies.
-
The Takayama Autumn Festival in October, accessible via connecting transport from Toyama, features stunning, ornate floats and is considered one of Japan's most beautiful festivals.
-
Winter snow crab season from November to March is a culinary highlight, where local restaurants and markets in Kanazawa and Fukui serve the region's famous, sweet-tasting snow crabs.
Important Guidelines & Safety
Essential safety information and guidelines
-
Always stand behind the yellow tactile paving lines on train platforms and wait for passengers to disembark before boarding.
-
Keep your physical rail pass and passport secure in a zipped bag or money belt, as losing your pass means it cannot be reissued and you will need to buy new tickets.
-
During winter months, be cautious of slippery, snow-covered or icy surfaces when walking between stations and local attractions in the Hokuriku region.
Visitor Information
Entry Fee
The 7-Day JR Hokuriku Arch Rail Pass is a flat-rate transport pass that covers unlimited travel on designated routes, offering significant savings compared to buying individual Shinkansen and local train tickets. Child passes for ages 6 to 11 are available at a discounted rate, while children under 6 travel for free when not occupying a reserved seat.
Visit Duration
This 7-day pass is perfectly designed for a week-long exploration of the Hokuriku region, allowing you to spend two to three days in Kanazawa, a day in Toyama, and time exploring Fukui or Nagano.
