Frequently Asked Questions
About National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts-Weiwuying
Weiwuying Art and Culture Center is located in Fengshan District, Kaohsiung City, adjacent to Weiwuying Metropolitan Park. The total site area is 9.9 hectares, of which the building area is 3.3 hectares. The sonic streamlined appearance and the free curve of white waves slide into the ground with a smooth arc, cleverly integrating with the surrounding environment. Designed by Dutch architect Francine Houban, the old banyan trees in Weiwuying were inspired by the design. The banyan trees, which are over 100 years old, have intertwined roots and branches, and the virtual and real scenes complement each other, which opened up the architect's imagination of giving Weiwuying a sense of penetration and breathing rhythm. The whole building allows people to walk into the venue from all directions without hindrance, and the transparent space extending from the roof of the hall is the Banyan Tree Plaza open to the public 24 hours a day, where people can freely shuttle through, move and rest freely. A fence-free art center not only helps air flow, but also creates a sense of space where the theater and life are zero distance. The Weiwuying Arts and Culture Center opened on October 13, 2018, actively developing the performing arts environment in southern Taiwan and becoming an important art base that connects with the international community.
