The Paper Dome is a structure originally designed by architect Shigeru Ban for the 1995 Kobe earthquake and later relocated to Nantou following the 1999 Chi-Chi earthquake. Visitors should be aware that the building is part of a larger eco-park and community center focused on post-disaster revitalization and environmental education. It is recommended to wear comfortable walking shoes, as the surrounding Taomi Village features extensive wetland trails and outdoor ecological exhibits.
This is the first paper building in Taiwan, China, and the first building brought from overseas. In 1995, architect Ban Shigeru built a light-weight paper church to commemorate the great earthquake in Japan. Ten years later, this paper church was transported to the Puli Taomi Community, which was hit by the 9·21 earthquake. Now, in addition to the paper church, there are wetland parks, paddling pools, etc. in the park. You can spend the night in a homestay run by the villagers, or you can taste local delicacies in the restaurant, and the scenery will be even better at night!
