About Koko Japanese Omakase
Experience the pinnacle of Japanese craftsmanship at Koko Japanese Omakase, where a master chef curates an exquisite 12-course omakase journey using premium ingredients flown directly from Japan. From delicate uni to buttery chutoro, every piece is a testament to authentic Edomae tradition, making this Bangkok gem an unforgettable culinary pilgrimage for sushi connoisseurs.
Local Legends & Stories
Bangkok's omakase culture has grown significantly as Japanese expats and culinary enthusiasts sought authentic experiences beyond Thai cuisine, with Koko establishing itself as a benchmark for genuine Japanese craftsmanship in the capital.
Must Do Experiences
-
Sit at the sushi counter to watch the chef's meticulous preparation and interact with the artisan behind each course
-
Savor the uni course, known for its creamy texture and oceanic complexity when sourced from Japan's finest suppliers
-
Experience the progression of flavors as seasonal ingredients guide the omakase narrative from lighter fish to richer preparations
-
Taste the Japanese oysters and other raw preparations that showcase the restaurant's commitment to ingredient authenticity
Hidden Gems
-
Ask the chef about seasonal ingredient rotations, as the omakase menu changes subtly with Japan's four seasons, offering regulars fresh discoveries
-
Notice the meticulous knife work on display, including the specific Yanagi blade techniques used for each fish variety
-
Inquire about sake pairings curated specifically for the omakase progression, elevating the experience beyond the basic set
What Makes it Special
-
12-course curated omakase set featuring carefully selected premium ingredients including uni, Japanese oysters, and chutoro sourced directly from Japan
-
Authentically prepared in Edomae style, the traditional Tokyo Bay sushi method that prioritizes fish quality and minimal embellishment
-
Intimate counter dining experience with direct interaction with the chef, allowing personalized explanations of each ingredient's origin and preparation
Available Facilities
Perfect Timing
When to visit for the best experience
Early lunch service from 12:00-13:30 offers a quieter, more intimate experience with the chef's full attention, while avoiding the Bangkok afternoon heat. The cooler months of November through February provide comfortable dining conditions, as the restaurant's counter seating sits near open preparation areas. Weekday visits typically allow for more flexible reservation times compared to weekend demand.
Photography Guide
Capture the perfect shots
-
Capture overhead shots of plated courses before eating to showcase the artistry and color contrasts of each sushi piece
-
Photo opportunities are best with soft, directional lighting from the counter's ambient glow rather than flash photography
-
Respect the chef's preference regarding photography during service, as some omakase experiences request phones away to maintain focus and intimacy
Cultural Etiquette
Respect local customs and traditions
In Japanese omakase tradition, it's customary to eat each piece immediately after it's placed before you, allowing the fish to be at optimal temperature. Use your hands or chopsticks as the chef may designate, and avoid adding excessive soy sauce or wasabi, as the chef has balanced seasoning for each course. A modest tip of 10-15% is appreciated in Bangkok, though not obligatory as is the case in Japan.
Special Events & Experiences
Enhanced experiences and seasonal highlights
-
Seasonal ingredient rotations typically occur in March, June, September, and December, coinciding with Japan's ingredient harvest calendars
-
Private chef's table experiences may be available during quieter periods for groups seeking a customized omakase narrative
Important Guidelines & Safety
Essential safety information and guidelines
-
Raw fish consumption is safe at reputable establishments like Koko that source from certified suppliers, but inform the chef of any raw fish allergies or sensitivities
-
Alcohol consumption on an empty stomach before omakase can amplify intoxication, so consider light food or spacing alcoholic courses throughout the meal
