Local Legends & Stories
Taronga Zoo is set on the cliffs of Sydney Harbour and has been a beloved wildlife sanctuary since 1916. The area was originally inhabited by the Cammeraygal people, and the zoo now plays a key role in conserving Australia’s native species.
Must Do Experiences
-
Walk the Sky Safari cable car for panoramic harbour views, meet the iconic koalas and kangaroos up close, ride the ferry from Circular Quay or Darling Harbour for photo-worthy scenery, and enjoy the daily keeper talks at the zoo.
Hidden Gems
-
Catch the early morning feeding sessions for a more intimate wildlife experience, take the ferry from Manly for a longer scenic route with views of the Opera House from a different angle, and visit the zoo’s behind-the-scenes tours if available.
What Makes it Special
-
Combines two iconic Sydney experiences in one ticket for convenience and savings, offers a ferry ride on the beautiful Sydney Harbour with multiple boarding options, and provides easy access to rare Australian animals in a scenic cliff-top setting.
Available Facilities
Perfect Timing
When to visit for the best experience
Visit in the early morning or late afternoon for cooler weather and more active animals. Spring and autumn offer mild temperatures, while summer can be hot and crowded.
Photography Guide
Capture the perfect shots
-
Capture the Sydney skyline from the zoo’s cliff-top viewpoints, photograph the animals during feeding times for lively shots, and use the ferry’s open deck for wide harbour photos with the Opera House and Harbour Bridge.
Cultural Etiquette
Respect local customs and traditions
Australia values a relaxed and friendly attitude, so feel free to strike up conversations with locals. Tipping is not mandatory, and visitors should respect wildlife by keeping a safe distance and not feeding the animals.
Special Events & Experiences
Enhanced experiences and seasonal highlights
-
Check for seasonal events like Wildlife Symphony, where the zoo is lit up at night with music and animal encounters, or special keeper talks during school holidays.
Important Guidelines & Safety
Essential safety information and guidelines
-
Stay on designated paths and behind barriers at all times, keep a safe distance from animals even during encounters, and apply high-SPF sunscreen regularly due to the strong Australian UV levels.
