Most visitors spend between two to three hours walking the perimeter trails and crossing the suspension bridge. Adding water activities or a picnic can extend the visit to a half-day.
The area features a tranquil reservoir surrounded by dense forest, bamboo groves, and seasonal plum blossoms. It is also a known habitat for various bird species, making it a popular spot for birdwatching.
Travelers can take a public bus from Tainan City to Xinhua District, followed by a short taxi ride from the Xinhua town center to the reservoir entrance.
The park primarily caters to those seeking leisurely nature walks, as the main lakeside paths are relatively flat and paved. While there are some elevated steps leading to pavilions, it lacks strenuous mountain hiking trails.
The paved lakeside paths near the entrance are generally stroller and wheelchair friendly. However, the suspension bridge and the elevated viewing pavilions require navigating stairs and are not wheelchair accessible.
Late winter to early spring, specifically January and February, is the best time to visit for the blooming plum blossoms and cherry blossoms around the reservoir.
Visitors should bring insect repellent, sun protection, and comfortable walking shoes due to the wooded, humid environment and unpaved secondary trails. Bringing your own drinking water and snacks is also recommended as on-site food vendors are limited.
Standard daily admission tickets are valid for a single entry only and do not permit re-entry if you leave the scenic area premises.
The main parking lot fills up quickly on weekends and holidays, so arriving before 9:00 AM is highly recommended to secure a space near the entrance.
