About Rock-A-Hula

Experience the vibrant heartbeat of the Pacific at Rock-A-Hula, Hawaii's largest live stage show right in the center of Waikiki. This spectacular theatrical production seamlessly blends authentic Polynesian dance traditions with jaw-dropping tribute performances of legendary music icons. From fiery Samoan knife dancing to electrifying Elvis and Michael Jackson tributes, it is an unforgettable evening of high-energy entertainment.

Local Legends & Stories

Waikiki has long been a historic playground for Hawaiian royalty and, later, legendary entertainers like Elvis Presley, who fell in love with the islands and filmed multiple movies here. Rock-A-Hula pays homage to this golden era by keeping the spirit of the King of Rock 'n' Roll alive alongside ancient Hawaiian storytelling.

  • Feel the heat of the thrilling Samoan fire knife dance performed in near-darkness.

Perfect Timing

When to visit for the best experience

The show runs in the evening, making it the perfect post-beach activity. Booking a Friday or Saturday night performance offers the most electric crowd energy, but weekdays are excellent if you prefer a slightly more intimate dining experience.

Photography Guide

Capture the perfect shots

  • Capture the colorful costumes during the post-show Meet and Greet where lighting is optimal and actors are posing.

  • During the show, use a fast lens and higher ISO settings to capture the fast-paced Samoan fire knife dance without using flash.

  • Take a selfie with your E Komo Mai Tai in the exclusive Green Room before the show begins.

Cultural Etiquette

Respect local customs and traditions

When watching the traditional Polynesian segments, particularly the Maori haka and Hawaiian hula, remember that these dances are deeply spiritual and tell important ancestral stories. Applause is welcome, but respectful attention during the quieter, more reverent chants is highly appreciated by the performers.

Special Events & Experiences

Enhanced experiences and seasonal highlights

  • The show frequently hosts special holiday-themed performances, including a spectacular New Year's Eve midnight show with champagne toasts.

  • Look out for the annual Elvis Birthday Tribute in January, featuring expanded sets and special guest tribute artists.

  • Valentine's Day packages often include romantic upgrades like premium seating and rose petals.

Important Guidelines & Safety

Essential safety information and guidelines

  • Keep a safe distance from the stage during the Samoan fire knife performance, as the heat and spinning blades are very real.

  • Navigating the theatre stairs in the dark can be tricky; wait for an usher to guide you with a flashlight if you need to leave your seat during the show.

  • Keep an eye on your belongings in the bustling dining and reception areas prior to the show.

Overview

Billed as Hawaii's largest live show, and staged with a scale to match — a full theatre production in the middle of Waikiki, with a live band, elaborate costume changes and a cast working through the dance traditions of the Pacific.

The first half moves across Polynesia: Hawaiian hula, the fast drumming and hip work of Tahiti, Maori haka, and Samoan fire knife spun and thrown in near-darkness. The second half changes gear entirely into tribute performances, with impersonations of Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson that are considerably better than they have any need to be.

Dinner packages add a buffet of Hawaiian and Pacific Rim dishes served beforehand, along with lei making, crafts and photographs during the pre-show. The venue sits inside the Royal Hawaiian Center, so most Waikiki guests simply walk over.
