Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about Singapore ferry tickets and crossings
Select your route on HolidaySG, choose a travel date, pick a sailing time from the live schedule, and complete your booking online. You receive an instant e-ticket confirmation by email — no printing needed.
Two terminals serve the Batam route: HarbourFront Ferry Terminal (new terminal since July 2026 at 5 HarbourFront Avenue, Singapore 099549 — HarbourFront MRT NE1/CC29, Exit B) and Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal (50 Tanah Merah Ferry Road — MRT EW4 then bus 35).
The crossing takes 40–60 minutes depending on the route. HarbourFront to Batam Centre is about 60 minutes, while Tanah Merah to Nongsa or Batam Centre is around 40–50 minutes.
Adult fares on HolidaySG start from S$41.78 per person one way (including terminal fees and surcharges). Return tickets often offer better value than two separate one-way trips. Prices vary by route, date and time.
Visa requirements depend on your nationality. Many nationalities (including Singapore, Malaysia, and most ASEAN countries) receive visa-free entry for up to 30 days. Indian passport holders require a Visa on Arrival (US$35). Check our visa pages for your specific nationality.
You need a valid passport with at least 6 months remaining validity. Carry a printed or digital copy of your ferry e-ticket. No separate boarding pass is needed — check in at the terminal counter with your booking reference.
Each passenger is allowed one piece of checked baggage (up to 20 kg) and one carry-on bag. Excess baggage fees apply for additional or overweight bags. Bulky items like bicycles may require advance arrangement.
If you miss your scheduled sailing, contact customer support immediately. Depending on availability, you may be able to rebook on the next available ferry for a rebooking fee. Arrive at the terminal at least 60 minutes before departure to clear immigration.
Yes, many travellers do a same-day trip. The first ferry typically departs around 7:45 AM and the last return ferry departs Batam at around 6:00–7:00 PM, giving you a full day to explore. Check live schedules for exact timings.
Return tickets are generally cheaper than booking two one-way trips separately. Compare one-way and return prices on this page. We also run seasonal promotions — look for strikethrough pricing on route cards above.
Arrive at least 60 minutes before departure for international sailings to clear immigration and customs. During peak periods (weekends, public holidays), arriving 90 minutes early is recommended.
Yes, BatamFast operates return services from Batam Centre, Nongsa, and Sekupang back to HarbourFront and Tanah Merah. You can book return tickets here or purchase one-way tickets in either direction.
Children aged 2 and above require their own ticket. Infants under 2 years travel free on an adult's lap but must still be declared at check-in. Child fares are typically lower than adult fares.
Changes and cancellations depend on the fare type and operator policy. Most tickets can be rescheduled for a fee if done at least 24 hours before departure. Contact HolidaySG support for assistance with changes.
HarbourFront is more accessible by MRT (NE1/CC29, Exit B) and has more daily sailings from its new terminal (opened July 2026). Tanah Merah is better if you live in east Singapore, has free parking, shorter queues, and serves Nongsa, Desaru and Pengelih routes that HarbourFront does not.
On arrival in Batam, you clear Indonesian immigration at the ferry terminal. Have your passport, completed arrival card (usually distributed on the ferry), and visa documents ready. The process typically takes 10–30 minutes depending on queue length.
Yes, BatamFast operates a direct ferry from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal to Desaru Coast in Malaysia. The crossing takes approximately 90 minutes. Desaru is known for its beaches, Desaru Coast Adventure Waterpark, and luxury resorts.
Yes, the Tanah Merah to Nongsa ferry takes approximately 40 minutes. Nongsa is a resort area on the northeast coast of Batam, known for its golf courses, beach resorts, and seafood restaurants.
Yes, a Batam day trip is very popular. Take an early ferry (first sailing around 7:45 AM) and return on the last sailing (around 6:00–7:00 PM). This gives you a full day for shopping, spa treatments, seafood, and sightseeing.
The local currency is Indonesian Rupiah (IDR), but Singapore Dollars (SGD) are widely accepted in tourist areas of Batam. Money changers are available at the ferry terminals and in Nagoya. ATMs are available at major shopping centres.
